Itinerary: Friday, October 16:
• Location: Concannon’s Irish Pub, Norwood Center
• Event Sponsor: Steve Libbey ’83
• Beginning at 8:00pm, about 60 alumni gathered at Concannon’s to kick off the weekend reunion. Golf plans for the day had fizzled with a long-range forecast cold spell, followed by blustering winds and rain. A few of the hard-core golfers braved the weather just the same, and they were on hand to share their account. Those arriving from out of town were happy to settle in and look forward to the games and banquet tomorrow eve.
Saturday, September 25th At the Harrington Pitch:
• On Saturday, the Men’s and Women’s teams had matches while Alumni gathered and enjoyed the unseasonably cool weather. Fortunately, the rain never showed and we had a great day.
The Women had a rough day against powerhouse Wheaton College but put up a valiant effort. The Men’s A-side lost a nail-biter to a much bigger squad from last year’s NERFU DIII Champion Salve Regina. Despite losses on the pitch, everyone was excited for the reunion and looked forward to the banquet that evening.
Between games we heard from Alumni and College administration on the success of Babson Rugby. Tim Demello ’81 offered his congratulations to BURC, BWR and Alumni for their enduring commitment to the success of the clubs. President Len Schlesinger and his wife Phyllis joined the celebration, and offered encouragement for all to continue the positive advocacy and support for the college and Babson Rugby.
In support of our event, Babson provided a large tent with tables and chairs, and a Barbecue for all to enjoy. Once again, we displayed History Boards from all 30 Years of Men’s Rugby and 13 years of Women’s Rugby (as best we can document).
Hall of Fame Banquet
• Location: Knight Auditorium
• Banquet Emcee: Ken Jasper ‘82
• Once again, the highlight of the weekend was the Banquet Dinner and Hall of Fame Inductions at Knight Auditorium.
The Alumni Office was a huge help with arrangements and Sodexho did a phenomenal job adjusting to our larger-than-anticipated turnout. One week prior to our event we had 60 registrations but we topped 200 that night (50 more after registration had closed)! For future reference, please help us plan better and register early!
As before, we started the evening with a cocktail hour, DJ music, a rotating slide show, and our history boards lining the walls of the Auditorium. Following a group photo from the rafters, dinner was served and the formal program began at 7:45pm.
After the Introductory Presentation, Hall of Fame Inductions Commenced and the Following Individuals Were Inducted into BURC’s Hall of Fame:
• Bill Anderson ‘83
• Nick Hathaway ‘84
• Steve Drew ‘86
• Paul Giunta ‘91
• Sean Spaulding ‘98
• Mike Graham ‘03
• Ken Jasper ’82 (surprise presentation)
In addition to the individuals above, the BURC Team of 2002-2003 was also inducted into the Hall of Fame for their season in Division II that yielded a Sweet 16 birth, NERFU runner-up, and Northeast runner-up to Middlebury College who went on to compete in Nationals.
